Guy Snowdon & The Citizens are an original rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. It is the brainchild of Guy Snowdon, who not only writes, produces, arranges, and performs the Citizens’ material, he also fronts the band with vocals and bass. Snowdon is a transplant from the home of British heavy metal, Birmingham, UK, along with Americans Matthew Schieferstein (Drums), Greg Hido (Guitar) and Tanisha Salary (Backing Vocals). Snowdon grew up in the Midlands of England on a healthy mix of pop, jazz, rock and world music from his parents’ and grandparents’ collections. In 2016, he found a new musical home in Cleveland, Ohio where he embedded himself into its vibrant music scene and began freelancing as a producer and recording artist. But his ever-growing catalog of original songs were begging to be played by a full band. And thus, Guy Snowdon & The Citizens were born.
With The Citizens, he brings a new sound that is infused with his diverse inspirations from the UK like anthemic guitars, heavy metal high notes and Brit pop beats. But he also exploits the talents of the band members he has meticulously chosen to bring his original songwriting from a single-handed, do-it-yourself recording to the live stage. With themes of power, frustration and defiance, ”Take What You Want” is about the tension between taking advantage of and reclaiming control. The sharp tone of the song exudes anger at exploitation and the satisfaction of turning the tables on your enemies The song ”Desert” is about man’s search and finding a path to one's vision of meaning, belonging in life. Many fans refer to it as the one with “the scream”. It is a great homage to The Citizens’ musical predecessors of the 70’s and 80’s when rock really ruled.
