Musician Lisa H takes a new look at Sixties Pop
Lisa H describes music as “my passion, my hobby – and my life.” For her, music is a matter of the heart; it’s a family affair. Her grandfather, Karel Hulinsky, was born in Austria, grew up in Bohemia, and studied composition, guitar, and vocals in Prague. He was once a prominent successful export for his country, performing mainly in America and the Rhine-cities between Bonn and Dortmund, where he collaborated with Artists like Drafi Deutscher.
Inspired by her grandfather, Lisa H has had a passion for music from an early age. She has been performing on stage since she was five, and has received vocal and piano Lessons in jazz and pop since childhood. Even now, Lisa is particularly fascinated by the blues, and how it influenced pop and music of black origin during the Swinging Sixties.
Lisa H is reinventing sixties pop, and she’s getting assistance from a prominent collaborator: producer, writer, and musician Ashley Slater. A few years ago, Ashley, the frontman of Freak Power, BigLounge, and Kitten and The Hip, accidentally emigrated from the United Kingdom to Southwest Saxony. It was mostly down to the pandemic and a bad relationship! He made his way to the European capital of culture, Chemnitz.
Here, he met Lisa H and took on the musical-director’s chair of Lisa’s tribute show to the music of Amy Winehouse. By the end of these gigs, Lisa H and Ashley had already become friends. The tribute show not only pleased Ashley Slater but also captivated the audiences at their premiere performances at Kraftwerkher in October 2024. And now, they have created something of their own! In October 2024, Lisa H and Ashley Slater began writing songs. So far, they have created over 20 Songs – working together after their busy workdays, much like the Tuesday Night Music Club.
“Doin’ Somethin’,” the first single, has been on release since March 21st 2025. It’s a true earworm, featuring a lively, upbeat rhythm enriched with catchy melodies and hooks. It’s the soundtrack for celebration, the rhythm for summer, the song to shake off the dust and gloom of winter. It’s a declaration to the world: “Get busy Doin’ Somethin’ because it rain’t gonna do itself!” Since March 21, 2025, the song has been available on all streaming platforms and BandCamp
