C´EST ÇA - Sunrise

Ghent band C’est Ça presents their new single 'Sunrise' – a song that came from a deeply personal place. It is both an ode to their late drummer Loues, and a reflection on how people have to grow through setbacks time and again.

As with many of C’est Ça’s songs, the basis of 'Sunrise' was created during a jam session. Frontman Joran improvised melodies and lyrics based on the feeling the music evoked, a process that starts intuitively and then takes shape. The title refers to an image his mother once gave him: “God creates the day and Joran walks through it like the sun rises.” It became the starting point for a broader message about continuing, despite everything – rising again and again like the sun, in the belief that growth and meaning come step by step.

The history of the band is closely intertwined with that of Loues. After the breakup of a previous band, Joran started writing solo. His search for musical connection brought him back to Loues, his best friend. He in turn involved Glenn (guitar) and Bavo (bass), which marked the beginning of C’est Ça.

Four years ago, Loues died in a car accident. The loss left deep scars, but the band decided to continue with one clear motivation: to continue Loues’ dream – to make music that means something, that resonates. Not to ‘score’ commercially, but to tell something honestly, something that touches people. During try-outs, Sander came into the picture as drummer. His words — “I want to be his successor, not his replacement” — hit the core of what the band stands for.

Musically, C’est Ça is stronger than ever today. The band started from diverse influences, ranging from funk and blues to rock. In collaboration with Star Entertainment, their sound was further refined. The foundation lies with bands such as U2, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kaleo. The result is a unique, layered sound: melodic, compelling, with the emotional depth of bands such as Athlete or Snow Patrol
