Carol Markstrom’s new release, speaks to a broader human theme of longing to return to a place of meaning, in this case to the juniper and sage of the deserts and mountains of the West. Carol was drawn to a poem from co-writer Betty Keck because the theme fits with her repertoire of songs often embedded in and inspired by places. Further many of Carol’s original songs connect to Native American history and culture people among whom juniper and sage serve healing and blessing purposes. Award-winning Native American flutist, David Rose, helped accentuate these themes with his playing. Other musical choices were made by Carol and her lead engineer, Merel Bregante, and the result is a heartfelt blending of sounds.
