The Dancer is the latest release from Uncle Trent and
Friends 2025 release Legacy. The song is a nostalgic
number with influences in traditional honky-tonk and
Western Swing music. The Dancer is reminiscent of a time
when musicians owned Saturday night and we all danced
our troubles away in small town taverns.
Bryce and Trent Agecoutay are from Cowessess First
Nation, and started playing in Alberta Honky-tonks with
their Dad, Jim, performing Country Music since 1992.
Uncle Trent and Friends Legacy is a project funded by
Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Calgary Arts
Development that allowed the Agecoutay brothers to
honour their Dad after he passed.
The album was released in April of 2025 and has seen a # 1
on the Indigenous Music Countdown with Burn a Smudge,
another single You’re the Reason, was added to full
rotation on Sirius XM Indigiverse, and the album Legacy
charted in the top ten of the Earshott National Folk, Roots
and Blues chart.
Trent and Bryce watched their dad from a very young age,
sit at the kitchen table and write songs. He always had a
pot of coffee, a lit cigarette and an old tape recorder. They
would hide in the next room and listen to the stories their
dad would create. Their love of music and storytelling
would eventually inspire them to start performing along
side their dad and create their own space in the Global
music landscape
