Basement Saints - Wicked Game
What began in 2012 in the former rehearsal space of Swiss rock legends Krokus has become one of the most thrilling acts in the Swiss rock scene today. Basement Saints capture the essence of classic rock'n'roll, soul, and blues with their blend of Hammond organ, guitar, and drums, reinterpreting it in a fresh way. Their impact has been recognized far beyond Switzerland’s borders: the band has toured Germany and Spain multiple times, earned praise from major magazines like Rock Hard, and their Song “Brother” was featured in a promotional trailer for a gaming console. Their performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival remains unforgettable. To date, the trio has released four albums, never letting up on the rock’n’roll intensity for a moment.
Basement Saints present ”Wicked Game,” their version of the classic love song by Chris Isaak. ”Imagine that legendary, heart throb of a love song that everyone knows, but it was made in the 70s, without autotune or overdubs, just old instruments and raw emotions. It’s been officially covered 544 times. All the more reason for us not to even attempt this mountain of a task. Covering this song would be pissing in the wind, another sand kernel on the beach, another drop in the ocean... Until we just rolled the tape and played it.
Anton didn’t just sing the lyrics, he lived it. Robby’s Hammond gave it the needed melancholic weight, while Molly’s drum choices and breaks, from straight rock to a heavy blues-rock shuffle, made those watery eyes heavy enough to produce a tearstreak. We’ll owe you a beer if it didn ́t produce a lump in your throat.”
